Job Description
SS Ocean Phoenix, a 680’ steam turbine fish processing ship. In addition to licensed steam engineers we employ two deck engineers. The Deck Engineer is responsible for assistance with ship maintenance and repair in accordance with the ISM and our safety management system. We are looking for a Deck Engineer with strong diesel experience.
The Ocean Phoenix has a crew complement of 220 of which 15 are in the Engineering Department. Crew rotations vary. The ship is at sea 6-8 months per year and the work hours are 12 hours on and 12 hours off, 7 days per week. Work is also available in port while the SS Ocean Phoenix is moored at Pier 90 in Seattle.
Work is available now in port and when the ship leaves Seattle in late May for the summer fishery.
Pay is a guaranteed daily rate or crewshare, whichever is greater. Health benefits provided after 6 months employment. 401k offered after 1 year. Travel to and from the ship is company paid with the exception of international flights.
Essential functions include:
* Generators and switch gear – troubleshooting, repair & maintenance
* Winches – maintenance and repair
* Cranes – maintaining 4 deck cranes
* Water Makers – operate and maintain system
* Pumps – operate and maintain
* Work on other machinery and equipment as assigned

Position Summary
Perform and supervise technical tasks associated with the design, construction, operation and maintenance of electronic and scientific equipment, oceanographic research instruments, undersea systems and vehicles, etc. Serve as a seagoing instrumentation engineer on research vessels.
Major Responsibilities
• Will have a multidisciplinary role, working closely with peers and be a part of a team that is responsible for designing, developing, installing, managing and maintaining instrumentation, electromechanical systems, other laboratory and on-site scientific research tools and equipment, undersea systems and vehicles, gauges, sensors, etc.;
• Will interact with scientific and technical colleagues to foster research ideas and develop research and experimental setups;
• Will develop portions of electronic or mechanical systems with supervision that is mainly focused at reviewing progress and milestone benchmarks;
• Will conduct hardware and software development, including design, prototype, test, production and deployment of marine and undersea systems and vehicles;
• Will take responsibility for projects encompassing the entire project life-cycle;
• Is able and will accept to go to sea and work for extended periods of time (between 1–2 months per year with individual legs between 2-4 weeks) as part of oceanographic research cruises, including participating in the activities on deck and in labs, carrying heavy gear and loading and unloading of the RV; and
• Is highly motivated, proactive, well organized and results oriented.
Competencies
Ability to devise novel approaches to problems, and prepare or modify drawings, specifications, calculations, charts and graphs, and monitor work for compliance to applicable codes, accepted engineering practices and standards; and
Excellent Skills in Computer Aided Design (CAD), Advanced Process Control (APC), Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA).
Qualifications
• A master’s degree in electrical engineering and a minimum of 5 years of related work experience.
• EE bachelor degree holders will also be considered.
• Demonstrated track experience record and accomplishment in instrumentation logic design and engineering techniques mainly related to marine systems and undersea vehicles in the areas of: analog circuits, digital circuits, circuit board, semiconductors, microcontrollers, electromagnetics, microprocessor, data communication, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair;

Job Description
SS Ocean Phoenix, is a 680’ fish processing ship operating primarily in the Bering Sea. We are in need of a Marine Electrician to work a 90 day contract beginning in early June 2012. Additional work is available in port throughout the year providing employment for 6-7 months.
The SS Ocean Phoenix has been operating for more than 20 years as a fish processor and attracts long term and short term professionals in the maritime industry. About a third of our crew have been with us more than 10 years, some stay for a few years and some of the processing crew work only a season or two.
The Marine Electrician is a permanent position working at sea approximately 6-7 months per year. After 6 months employment health benefits are available and after 1 year 401k enrollment. Company pays the premium for employee’s medical, dental, LTD and there is a match on the 401k.
The SS Ocean Phoenix has a crew complement of 220 of which 15 are in the Engineering Department. While at sea work days are 12 hours on and 12 hours off, 7 days per week. Pay is a guaranteed day rate or crewshare, whichever is greater. Day rate is paid twice monthly. Crewshare that exceeds the day rate is paid as a settlement at the end of the fishing season.
Job Requirements
Candidates should have the following qualifications:
* Two Year Associates or Technical Degree preferred
* Minimum of 2 years of at sea Marine Electrician experience
* Strong working knowledge of motors and motor controls, industrial logic controls, generators and switch gear
* Proficient with electrical systems including mechanical shutdowns, navigational communications, internal communications, emergency electrical system and support.
* Basic computer skills
* Ability to assume responsibility, be flexible, perform duties and handle multiple tasks under potentially stressful or hazardous conditions
* Proactive in problem solving
* Quickly and efficiently complete tasks in a safe manner
* Ability to work with or without supervision
* Ability to prioritize and respond to multiple requests from separate departments
